Around fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official said the vandalism left him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
